REFugee Community for Resilience and Development (RECORD)

BACKGROUND

Established in April 2019, Refugee Community for Resilience and Development (RECORD) is an indigenous non-governmental organization incorporated in Uganda.

RECORD operates in Rwamwanja Refugee settlement, Nkoma Katalyeba Town Council, Kamwenge district, south western Uganda. We intervene in both Humanitarian and Development settings working closely with both Refugees and host community with direct responsibility to the community we are accountable to. 

Our key thematic areas in:

  • Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) through Community Based Psychosocial Support (CBPS).

  • Conflict Transformation, Community Peace Making and Peace Keeping.

  • Youth engagement through talent promotion and Forum theatre for development.

  • Community Managed, Disaster Risk Reduction through (Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation and Ecosystem Management and Restoration.

RECORD is a local organization with a strong community connections, it’s essential for identifying the solutions to the problems that affects the surrounding community with anticipated longer presence in this very location.

RECORD works with community based facilitators identified fairly and inclusively from the affected community comprising of different nationalities, persons with disability, albinism among others.

Our strategies.

  • Community Based Psychosocial Support approach to facilitate the community in the recovery process.

  • Counter narratives approach to tackle defect other than deficit and behavior change communication

  • Forum theatre approach by use of art of music, dance, play (drama) among others.

  • Capacity building of community based groups of churches, women and youth led groups in harmonious living, CBPS, Financial Literacy among others.

WAY FORWARD/PLANS.

  • Taking refugee presence as an opportunity to explore different ways of interventions and moving from principles to practice.

  • The opportunity to explore conflict related issues and apply innovative solutions from the lived experience e.g. conflict related sexual violence.
